Only for the average consumer market. All the pros who needed one order thru Canon (as well as some special retailers in some cases in Asia). So in business sense those units are sold, sold enough units as lead time before the consumers buying. You may see more 7Ds in stores than 1D4, but what I said is true.

Just like how the 7D can do very close to what the 1D4 does but it was not released before the 1D4 was selling for a while.

The fw is a nice update and also keep the complaints about the camera's age low.

7D was released a few months before the 1D4. The 7D started selling in September 2009. 1D4 was announced a few weeks later but wasn't widely available till a month or so before the 2010 Winter Olympics.
