Focus point question

I will be going on a trip soon where I will have the chance for great landscape shots I have posted some questions and got some great help here is the question. One strategy to keep it simple is to use for example f22 focus 1/3 of the way and shoot. While changing focus points on the 7d I noticed if I select the bottom point only in the center that point is about 1/3 of the way into the picture. Has anyone shot using only this point as a way to keep it simple? Basically compose the picture with the bottom center focal point as the only focus point selected use f/22 to get max dof and go about my business
