Considering a used D7000
Jun 28, 2012

I'm considering getting a D7000 for a while, and I've noticed recently that used prices seem to be coming down so I may go ahead now. I've a couple of questions about what I should be wary of when choosing one. I should say that I intend to buy from a Nikon specialist outfit, not privately. Their second hand cameras are all sold as 100% perfect optically and in full working order, with the only significant variables being the external condition and the age in terms of shutter count.

From reading the forums I guess I should ask them to specifically confirm that auto-focus is properly adjusted, and there are no issues with oil contamination since those seem to be two problems that have affected a few D7000s.

Are there any other specifics I should check?

Regarding shutter count, at what point should I be concerned? I've seen them listed with up to 50,000 actuation, is that too many? I guess a fairly high count probably means the previous owner was getting good use out of it, whereas only a few hundred might be a bad sign.

By the way I wonder if others have noticed prices coming down.

Thanks in advance, Tony S
