Nikon has guidelines that must be followed so it really don't matter where it is put together. The same with Apple or Canon for that matter. It is just the sleazy company's that are cloning everything under the sun that I don't trust.

There is very little in your life that is NOT connected to China as the main producer of electronics and technology in the world. Most of or all of your computer you are writing on was Chinese. Your iPhone, much of your home appliances, auto parts and subsystems, even Boeing aircraft have substantial portions of their products made in China, as do GM, Ford and any other manufacturer.
With its wide open economy and unfettered production and tremendous growth of its middle class, surely China is more capitalistic than the US is now. They out produce the US 50 to 1 in engineers. Trying to avoid Chinese products and technology means living in a cave.
