Premiere timeline frozen when linking with After Effects

I'll be using Premiere Pro CS5.5 and After Effects CS5.5 simultaneously to edit clips. I'll select a clip in the timeline in Premiere, and open it in After Effects by right clicking and hitting "Replace with an After Effects Composition" for colour grading.
Recently, I've noticed whenever I edit a clip in After Effects, I can no longer playback the footage in Premiere. I end up having to quit Premiere and starting it up again to do so. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
