I think there will be a real, practical difference when you will use the new Mac Book Pro with Retina display for photo editing.... D800 is probably the only camera that is a match for this display:-)

But it is all irrelevant....:-)

In terms of basic ability to create images, there is little to choose among the cameras. However, depending upon what the target use of the images is, in particular for decent sized print, the 5D and D700 are similar. The difference between the 5D/D700 and 5D2/5D3 is significant for a 16x20 print (which happens to be my favourite print size for wall prints). The difference between the 5D2/5D3 and the D800 is sufficient for high quality 24x36 being visibly better with the D800.

In all other respects, the cameras are excellent indeed. IMHO, the differentiation is among the cameras' ability to work with larger print sizes. For web and 8x10 work, there is no practical visible difference. Even at larger prints sizes, the final "IQ" is largely determined by your ability with post-processing and surprisingly less on the actual pixel count of the various cameras. (although, of course, I would always prefer a camera with more rather than less pixels).
