Thanks

The aspherical element is the biggest seller of the f1.8 for me, unless it's misaligned
The f1.4 is, well f1.4

I will get the f1.8 and wait patiently for the f1.2G myth ...

At one point, when I had the D7000 and D700 bodies, I had the 50/1.8G, 50/1.4G, and 50/1.8 AF-D in house. Ran a series of tests, kept the 50/1.8G and sold off the rest, so I can't re-run those on the D800E obviously.

On the other bodies, what surprised me about the little 1.8G was how much less veiling flare it had at F/2 and F/2.8 than the 1.4G - there was no doubt in my mind that if I were shooting theater or live dance performance and had to be at F/2 or F/2.8, that I'd pick the 1.8G over the 1.4G, no doubt at all.

Tests of the little 1.8G on my D800E have been nice - it is quite sharp on that body once you get stopped down a bit to bring the corners into gear. Can't really go wrong for 200 bucks honestly.
