Rally Car Pics

My aim was to maintain focus as the cars speed around this corner of Stage 1 of the WRC Rally New Zealand. Beforehand on an open road I tested my D7000 with a 70-300VR and the 85mm1.8G and found that the 85mm 1.8G was slightly better
My camera settings that I settled on were
AFC with 9 points
a1 focus
a3 off
a6 39 points
85mm 1.8G
f/3.3
ISO 400
The day was overcast for the first shot so the shutter speed was 1/350 sec
It brightened up for the second shot (1/750sec) which I think is better.
As each car approached I shot 10 shots (then the buffer was full) at 6 frames per second with continuous focusing. I estimate the cars were travelling away from me at about 65km/hr (40mph).
Each shot shown below was the fourth of the sequence of ten
The pics are uncropped
I found the first pic of each sequence was the worst focus but all of the rest were good. (Could this be my heavy finger on the button at the start)
Comments and questions welcome
