In reply to foggy, Jun 23, 2012

I have the newer version of the Tokina 12-24F4. I find AF is accurate and certainly fast enough. It is not used a great deal, so I can't tell if a problem with the aperture blades will develop. I did have to replace the diaphragm of my Canon 35f2 recently, after almost 3 years of frequent use.

The Tokina is very sharp with good contrast. The only flaw that I see is some color fringing if you have high contrast contours in the edges of the frame, e.g. tree limbs against the sky. Distortion seems pretty low for a wide lens. I am happy with mine. I got if for travel, not daily use.

I have read the reports of problems with the lens, but I don't know if they are limited to the early models or not.
