Using ND filter and flash

I'm doubtful, because if I use such a ND, that will be a decrease in either 2 or 3 stops, and I don't know if the 580 is powerful enough. I'm thinking that a shoot-through would dramatically decrease the range, too.

Perhaps if I use a reflector, too ....
