Simple technical questions...
If am standing before a 2 mile long lake before dawn (i.e. very low light) and focus at infinity with a wide angle lens, what happens to the depth of field if I use a large aperture (say f/4.0) vs a small aperture (f/16.0)?
The reason? To minimize the use of high ISO (> 400) and very long shutter speeds (> 30 seconds) in very low-light conditions.
Exactly how wide? Lets assume 18mm (the widest a kit lens can go). Hyperfocal at f/4 is 14.9 feet. As long as you focus on anything at 15t or further, you 'll have infinite depth. Even with f/2.8, you go infinite past 21ft.
