From a capability standpoint, it should do great. Better than most, even. The only reservation is that it's kinda big. Most people seem to want a point and shoot that can fit in a purse or pocket and the LX5 is kind of a chunky brick of a camera. I wear mine in a little belt pouch when I go out, which is a little dorky, but not as dorky as a big camera bag that I use for my SLR.

If not fitting it in a pocket or purse is no big deal, then I'd recommend it wholeheartedly. If you do want something more portable, something like a Canon S100 or Nikon P310 might fight better (at the expense of a slower aperture on the long end of the zoom).

(And yes it will fit in a purse, it's just kinda thick and heavy for a purse camera)
