found solution to the left AF point issue
Jun 20, 2012

I got my D4 today and spent sometime testing.

My copy does exhibit the left autofocus point issue , but I think I found a temporary solution and it is quite simple.

If you set the focus selector lock lever to the "L" position when using the left outermost autofocus points, the issue goes away, it will be as sharp as the rightmost autofocus points.

I think the cause of this might be that the AF point got changed when the shutter release button is pressed, probably due to some focus point wrapping bug in firmware or software, so the location of the selected AF point received by the camera is different from what we see in the view finder.

If this is indeed the case, I believe it can be easily fixed in firmware updates.
