I do the following to minimize vibrations:

  1. Use the slowest shutter speed that does not allow any ambient light to reach the sensor. (Usually around 1/80 second)

  2. Use mirror lockup (at a minimum set to 2 seconds, 10 would be better)

  3. Use second curtain flash.

  4. Use very low power flash setting, duration will be around 10,000 of a second.

1 and 3 allow the maximum time for the shutter vibrations to subside.
2 allows the mirror vibrations to subside.
4 stops subject movement.
