Canon 300mm F/4L IS as a dragonfly lens

I shoot some macro - even have the legendary MPE65 for some extreme close up work.

However, one of my favourite lenses to shoot dragons has become the 300mm F/4L IS with attached 1.4 TC. It produces very good sharpness, colour and contrast indeed and it's possible to get sufficiently close to NOT have to crop afterwards (with a medium sized dragonfly).

This also provides a good working distance where shorter "true" macro lenses just can't reach.

I'm really impressed at the results from this combo - let me know what you think of these from the weekend (it's a UK four spotted chaser if you're interested):
