Canon 100mm 2.8 macro vs. Canon 100mm 2.8 IS L macro

I would like to start taking macro photographs and I am deciding between the Canon 100mm 2.8 macro and the Canon 100mm 2.8 IS L macro. Do any of you out there have experience with these lenses? Is the “L” version worth the extra $$? I am focusing strictly on macro photography here. I have a few“L” lenses and understand the IQ, build quality, etc… of “L” lenses. But in this case, for macro work, should I spend the extra cash? I will not be using this lens for anything besides macro work.
