It's oil on my lens
In reply to MrFlash, Jun 14, 2012

Just resurrecting this thread in to debunk the idiotic contention that this particular Nikkor lens doesn't frequently suffer from oil on the aperture blades that cause them to stick and screw up exposures.

A simple Google search will show you videos, photos, and even a how to clean the iris yourself photo series. There are reports of the problem all over photo forums.

And my lens, supposedly a serial number after Nikon fixed the poor design, has oily shutter blades that stick cause exposure errors. The oil is clearly visible, and you can see the problem if you care to look:

If you dare to fix it yourself, here's the tutorial:

If you own a Nikkor 35mm f/2 AF D lens and the aperture is acting up, it's far and away most likely to be this oil problem. And it's expensive to repair (saw $160 for one report out of warranty from Nikon service).
