These lenses cost so much, It's a shame (although convenient) to waste money on overlap... And the 200 2.8 L looks to be a pretty good deal at $820 msrp, thought I haven't read any reviews yet... Similarly, the 300 f4 L can be had at refurb for $1150.

Of course you loose a lot of "MM" in between, but sometimes you just can fill a bag with the perfect range. If you want really nice telephoto, at a relatively affordable price, one of those primes might just be a great option.

mm's between don't concern me, but that 200mm is pretty hard to handle on a crop sensor without IS. Just be aware. I loved mine, but it was pretty shaky if you don't have fast shutter speeds. Eventually moved to the 70-200 f4 IS, and then later to the 70-200 2.8 IS ii.

So for me if you are going to use a tripod or be outside the 200mm 2.8 is awesome, but if you are thinking handholding in less than bright light its tough.
