If you could restrict yourself to owning only one lens...

I chose this lens because I'd really not like to live without both the 14-24 2.8 and the 24-70 2.8. The 17-35 2.8 covers of bit of both ranges, and takes filters. Moreover, while I own all three, until I bought the 24-70 and 14-24, the 17-35 was my best old friend. The majority of photos on my site were shot with the 17-35, albeit mostly on the D2x, before getting the D3s.
