Not a question of potential breakage for me. Rather, the possibility of miniscule 'shavings' coming off a plastic flange when being dragged across a metal camera mount and ending up -perhaps unseen- inside the body (over the long term with thousands of mounting/unmountings) - though the self-lubricating you're referring to would hopefully combat that possibility.
