Hmmmm. I am not sure I know best. I have same settings. I half press and start to fine tune focus (DMF). Once set, I allow scene to pop back out to full view from DMF and quickly recompose and snap.

Playing with the 50mm 1.8 lens, Sean's approach seems to be the best. I was thrown off because once center focus is obtained, and I would recompose, the green square remained centered and I was expecting it to move when I would recompose. But although it doesn't, the focus does remain locked on the original center focused subject even when object is no longer in the center when you fully press the shutter. Probably most people already have this figured out.

I am so impressed with this NEX 5N camera.
