What I think I'll try is a full-spectrum CFL bulb and put that in a reflector that will direct all of the light in one direction. It won't generate a lot of heat and are cheap to operate. They are suppose to be closer to sunlight. If I put it on a window sill it would get at most a couple hours of sun daily. I can let the CFL run day and night.
I guess we'll see how well it works.
