for around $600, I would go for the e-pm1 with the 14-42 kit lens. Olympus gives very nice looking photos right out of the camera with no need to tweak them later with photo software.

Then, I would suggest spending the rest on a second fixed lens with a wider aperature. This gives you a sharper lens with better results in low light, and the ability to play with blurred backgrounds. For that I'd check out the Sigma 30mm 2.8. It's only about $200 so could still fit within your budget. If you're up to the challenge, you could always go even cheaper and get an old Olympus film lens like the Olympus OM 50 1.8, along with an adapter, for only around $50 for both, but then you would need to focus manually.
