Best Non-DSLR Camera Available?

Hi all. I'm looking for opinions on what is the best non-DSLR on the market today. I would prefer something compact, but it doesn't have to fit in my pocket.

4/3's...APS...etc. Interchangeable lens would be fine, but I'm also ok with fixed. I shoot mostly street and parties (not professionally), sometimes people.

I did have a Canon7D with a 24-70L, but looking for something lighter and easier to carry
