Test: 23 Minolta MC/MD 50mm Lenses on the NEX-5N
Jun 12, 2012

Recently i tested > 100 vintage lenses on the NEX-5N, mainly classics from Zeiss and Minolta.

The results for classical Zeiss/Leitz lenses from the 1930ties were published earlier:
http://artaphot.ch/nex-lens-comparisons/342-nex-5nclassicalfifties

  • Leitz Elmar 5cm 1:3.5 (ca 1925)

  • Leitz Summitar 5cm 1:2 (1939, here coated version 1951)

  • Zeiss Tessar 5cm 1:2.8 (1931, here the T* version from about 1955)

  • Zeiss Sonnar 5cm 1:1.5 (1931, here the rare M39/T*-version for the Leica, 1941)

  • Zeiss Biotar 5.8cm 1:2 (1938, here the T* version from about 1951)

  • Zeiss Planar ZM 50mm 1:2 (2007)

  • Zeiss C Sonnar 50mm 1:1.5 (2007)

Now i have added the results for the 1958-1969 55mm and 58mm Rokkors, including the legendary MC 1.2/58mm:

  • Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 58 mm 1:1.4 (MC-II, 1969)

  • Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 55 mm 1:1.7 (MC-II, 1969)

Also included are the 50mm and 45mm Minolta MC/MD lenses from the 1970-1985 period:

  • Minolta MD 50mm 1:1.4 (MD-III, 1981)

  • Minolta MD 50mm 1:3.5 (MD-III, 1981)

Finally a few Minolta MD zooms (most of them with surprising performance!):
http://artaphot.ch/nex-lens-comparisons/346-nex-5n-und-minolta-md-zooms-bei-50mm

  • Minolta MD Zoom Rokkor 24-50mm 1:4 (MD-II, 1978)

  • Minolta MD Zoom Rokkor 35-70mm 1:3.5 (MD-II, 1978)

  • Minolta MD Zoom Rokkor 35-70mm 1:3.5 (MD-III, 1981)

  • Minolta MD Zoom Rokkor 35-105mm 1:3.5 (MD-III, 1983)

  • Minolta MD Zoom Rokkor 35-135mm 1:3.5 (MD-III, 1983)

Hopefully, these simple comparison may give some hints to those looking for vintage (portrait) glass on the NEX-3/5/7 system.

More information on short teles (75-100mm range), mid- and long teles (135mm, 200mm, 300mm) and wideangles (20mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm) will follow soon.
