85L + extension tube - a viable option for macro?

I am about to pull the trigger on the 85L II. I am going to use it for portraits and random "bokehlicious" photography.

At the same time I am thinking about buying a macro lens, but then I began thinking about extension tubes.

How much closer can I get with the 85L (or my existing 70-200 L) when using extension tubes? Is this a viable option for macro, or should I buy a dedicated macro lens?

Im on a 5D2, btw.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II
