Tripod for Nikon d800 combo with Nikon 24-70?

I am no expert in selecting tripods. But from whatever I have read from various reviews and comments... the 3 section will be more stable as compared to the 4 section... when all the sections are fully extended.

But you will have to weigh in your requirements (what features you need to have) when making your decision.

In most cases, the 4 section tripod will have a shorter collapsed length as compared to the similar series 3 section, making it more portable (example - packed in carry on luggage).
