Re: Canon EF 40 f/2.8 Pancake L lens

Marketing Marketing Marketing. You know how many people who are just gear buyers rather than serious artists. L means another lens to show off and nice IQ that is much needed because otherwise they can't tell the difference between a cell phone shot or this. Oh wait, can they really?

Look how many hail the $7k Leica 50 APO ASPH Cron. A mouthful, isn't it? Much needed because otherwise the reg cron is crap, It is crap now but before the APO it was godly. Now it is the same thing for Canon. Next thing we know there is a need for L batteries, L flashes, and L straps. Otherwise nothing is worth it.

Why isn't it a "L" lens?

Why does it need to be an "L" lens? Judge the lens on its own merits, rather than based on a label or letter designation. They literally could have just stuck an "L" designation on it, added a red ring to it, and doubled (or tripled) its price. Then people like yourself would have gotten all excited and said, "Wow! It's an L lens! Awesome! Take my money!"
