I would say Pentax is more like Leica. There is more attention to feel of the product, usability and the finer points of what makes a good image.

However, Leica is made in Germany.

Except for the stuff that's made in Portugal, like most of the M8 and M9...

Or the R bodies that were built by Minolta in Japan.

Or the stuff that's made by Panasonic in Japan, China, or Vietnam, and gets "red dotted".

And don't underestimate the Japaneses reputation for precision equipment.

Leica is made by people who for generations were making the finest photographic and optical instruments,

Acting under the directions of people like Hermes, who thought more about how to color coordinate the models with their other boutique products than they thought about photography.

people with the utmost skill and devotion to their job. And they are accordingly paid. And you have to pay as well for their products. And now look at Pentax. It is made by who? What kind of skill have the people making Pentax photographic tools? What kind of incentive they have to work as best as they can?

Basically, same as Leica. Sorry if the truth disturbs the world-view that you've crafted.
