Is STM better than USM in video?

If you're a using a USM lens in video with AF, when the camera tries to refocus, you will experience a sudden jump, which will make this part completely useless.

I am wondering if a stepping motor (STM) will refocus more smoothly (in a stepping way, much less abrupt), thus making it a great choice for video with AF.
