I asked about this at Nikon in Tokyo and they said that it was to boost interest in the system so that the development of new lenses etc is assured and more people will be interested in it. Tried the V1 with and old AI lens and it was fantastic. F stop worked from the lens but speed needed to be adjusted on the back of the camera by the zoom lever. Takes time but it means that with the adapter almost all Nikon F glass can still be used, albeit everything I own becomes about100mm due to the 2.7 times enlargement factor.

They were surprised at just how cheap it was going for on Amazon.
