1.2x crop was already in D3.

1.25 crop?

Just thinking out loud a bit, if that would cause problems for APS-C only lenses well that's another question some might be ok though

The fact that the D800 has a previously unknown crop option of 1.2 opens up the remote possibility that 1.2x might show up in the future. Canon has done it for years but their implementation seems a little crude compared to what Nikon has done with full frame; Canon users can't even mount APS-C lenses on full frame cameras. I think it could make for a rather elegant progression from low end camera to high end camera....entry level can only shoot DX, middle level shoots 1.2x or DX, and top end pros can shoot FX, 1.2X or DX. Won't satisfy the crowd here that wants DX only (but I fear there are some that are going to be disappointed with Nikon's offerings no matter what). Honestly, I don't think it'll happen, but Nikon seems to be acting a little more mischievous with releases these days. Nikon surprises seem to be keeping Canon on it's heels.
