Pentax has two 40mm pancakes

Yes and no!

Pentax has available two pancakes but had another some years ago (I left a link to information about the first one in my first post in this tread but I guess you missed it so here it is again: http://kmp.bdimitrov.de/lenses/primes/normal/M40f2.8.html )

It was smaller and lighter than the new Canon 40mm and it can be found regularly on eBay.

one being the one that just came out with the k-01, the other is not that old a design (don't know the date),

All three 40/2.8 share the same optical design. The first DA has been tested and is a full frame lens. The new one might not be FF as they may had to cut somewhere to make it do small as it makes the one from 2004 look huge.

but neither are the manual focus one you speak of from 1976. One is metal and a beautiful lens. They also make a 21mm, 43mm and 70mm pancake, all metal AF lenses. There's also a 15mm, 35mm macro, and 77mm in metal, which are just slightly larger than a pancake.

The 43 and the 77 are from the film era and are great, small and light. The 70 is also a full frame lens. The others are all APS-C.

Regards,
Luis
