no major upgrade in photo mode

I don't know if you have noticed this where you live, but here a number of people are still upgrading from P&S to Canon DSLRs, and at least for the last two or three generations of xxxD bodies, I see those people exclusively relying on the CDAF while holding the camera at arms length framing as they do they cell phone. Canon HAD to address this aspect of their market (better the entry level than the 1-series) if they intend to continue with DSLRs into the future. Uneducated upgraders might not care about the camera size (accepting any trade-off as a given), but they are sure not going to stick with Canon for long when they find all their friends with NEX/m43/Nikon1's getting accurate focus in a fraction of a second - while they get nothing but blurry pictures of their kids. The hybrid AF goes a long way to fixing this problem.

That is a good point indeed

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

God is the tangential point between zero and infinity.

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

God always take the simplest way.
