It's all about the lens - wide & fast

I would say all three TG-620, TG-820 & TG-1 are of the same generation (iHS), sharing the same sensor (12 MP BSI-CMOS) and the same image processor (TruePic V). TG-820 has the highest resolution LCD, but the TG-1 has an OLED screen which has lower power consumption. Paired with a larger battery in TG-1 allows for including GPS and still have long battery recharge intervals.

The main difference is the wider (25mm equiv in 35mm) and brighter (f/2.0) lens of the TG-1, which in addition can take conversion lenses. No other ruggedized camera on the market can match the TG-1's lens speed today.
