First off for macro shooting, you use the lens on manual

If you have a fast focusing lens, you don't have to. Yes, for some macro subjects manual focus is the best choice, but I've shot moving insects (such as bees) with the autofocus enabled to help me track, and shot flowers close up under slightly windy conditions (the wind causing motion of the flower) and used the focus tracking to follow the focus point.
