Is ISO setting an important factor in photograpy?

High ISO capability is not a substitute for enough light.

@Cobras: You mention you are into humming birds. The thing I look for in all bird images is fine feather detail - very, very often missing in images posted here - and there is nothing like high ISO + noise reduction software for obliterating it.

I wonder how you are coping with the extremely high frequency wing beat of a humming bird? My way would be two or three manual flashguns at reduced power output in order to shorten flash duration while minimising ambient light but this is not so easy on a D7000. Have you posted any humming bird images anywhere?
