Photography classes with Sony Nex

Thank you everyone for your responses. It has really given me the confidence after being shot down yesterday by a clearly uninformed person.

I am looking into a digital photography class since I already have a film SLR so that woudlnt be a problem. A professor at a local community college states that DSLR might be better since it is easier to manually focus and use the studio lighting equipement. Looks like the Nex 7 might be a better choice for me then, though I am not sure about its compatiablity of lighting equipement.
