A77 can't use CF cards.

Best perfomance comes with UHS-1 type cards

Other choice is Memory Sticks

Buy at least 2 cards, stay away from cheap ones and buy from reputable sellers.

--You may not need the fastest card out there for single shots or video... BUT... if you shoot in bursts of 12, 13, 14, and need a quick buffer clearing...you indeed need a fast card. Your camera is capable of taking about 17 frames @ 12 FPS before the buffer is full.. in order to take another group of 12 fps, the buffer has to be clear. A Fast card can clear the buffer in about 9 seconds., slower cards which work fine can take up to 30 seconds to clear the buffer @ 12 fps. meaning you have to wait 30 seconds before you can take another photo.

The Best bang for the buck using the full capabilities of the A77 is the Sandisk 95 MB/sec card... a 32 GB card will cost you around 85 dollars.

I agree with everything Bill has written but suggest that you have more smaller cards rather than fewer 32GB cards. Very simply put, the bigger the card, the more pictures you stand to lose if something unpleasant happens. It will encourage/force you to offload the contents more frequently as well.

Also, two 16GB cards are generally a bit cheaper than a single 32GB card.

Sandisk cards periodically appear heavily discounted so keep your eyes peeled. If you live near Chatham Ontario, run to the Future Shop for the 16GB Extreme Pro for $20 (!!)
