Video help!!!!

Does anyone know what that cirular tube is at the front of the camera i see this on every professional camera and have no idea what it is ????

Also are the quatility in video the same for the most part with the nex-7 and nex-5n i know the 7 may be better ofr pics with the megapixels but for video only?
