How do I remove trim ring from 45 1.8?

Sorry, folks, but I cannot remove the trim ring from the 45 1.8 in order to attach the macro converter. I turn it until the dots align, but it doesn't come off! What am I doing wrong? Thank you for the silly question, but I'm stumped!
