I have the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 without OS and I've shot pro, college, high school and for a local paper. I have no complaints with it, nor have I received any complaints from clients about image quality. The autofocus is fast even with my A700. I have two Sigmas (the 70-200mm and a 28-200 mm) and two Tamrons (the 28-75mm and the 11-24mm). I am happy with all of them.

Personally, I did a lot of research at the time (two years ago) and kept reading over and over that Tamron had better image quality and Sigma had a faster autofocus. I opted for the Sigma because having a better image isn't going to do you any good if you missed the shot. Also, the difference in image quality is barely noticeable and only visible when you compare the images side by side.

Not defending my decision or telling you to buy a Sigma, just sharing how I came to the conclusion to buy the Sigma and I'm happy with it.
