I think you'll easily manage a shot such as this one I randomly found on the internet:

According to the site where this is posted, this was shot with settings ISO 100, 1/6400 sec at f/5.6. The point is, the Sun is still so much overexposed that you will not see Venus. As a minimum put your lens at f/11 and if you have an 1/8000 sec shutter speed, use that too. You may of course be lucky that a layer of fog helps you out.
