D90 portraiture with 85mm1.8 and 35mm1.8. C&C please!

hello all.

I'm really trying to improve on my portraiture skills, especially with these two lenses. I know they're of some of the best quality and I want to get the most out of them.

i post processed them with a blurring filter to smooth out the skin and really bring focus to the eyes. I struggle a bit getting the white balance just right i think, and some of the whites tend to lean towards the warmer side. Does anyone have tips for white balance adjustments? I haven't tried using a grey card or anything like that just yet.
