No, they are not. Our "sensor" - retina, is 7 megapixel of the diaginal somewhere in between Nikon 1 and 4/3 (not rectangulr though). We can properly focus only on the tiny central part called fovea, about 1 mm in diameter, and about 200 kilopixels if I remember correctly. The rest is pretty bad.

Hold your finger an inch in front of your nose and tell me the background isn't completely out of focus, for example.

It is out of focus, but not even close to being completely obliterated into a colorful mess like many here like for some reason. If yours is, you might need a visit to an ophthalmologist.
