Nikkor 28 1.8g Review and Samples

The lens is awesome.

Build: Feels too light, but it is put together very well. The manual focus ring has a nice, smooth motion. Seems like it is built with very tough plastic.

Bokeh: I plan on using this at 1.8 for indoor wedding portraits, so bokeh is important. The bokeh is superb at 1.8, but every once in awhile, one might notice onion-type rings in certain shots (see below- flamingo shot).

Rendering: This lens gives the same "look" of the new 24mm and 35mm lenses at a much lower price. It has the same magic.

Sharpness: I never worry too much about this, but it is really sharp all over starting at f4. At 1.8, the corners are smeary, but you won't care if you only open it up for portraits. At 2.8, corners become acceptable.

AF: Super fast to me.

Value: You decide. I think it is a steal. I love the color redering and bokeh for tough indoor situations. Priceless.
