+1 to the above

The best possible use for Auto-ISO is in manual, as stated. For sports, this is de rigour. Set the shutter speed depending on the sport; set the aperture for the conditions of the sport, and let ISO ride. Works well most all of the time. If not, just change the shutter speeed and apertures.
