Here I once again agree, the images are very soft but then the droopy lens doesn't help.

If I remember correctly those guys who installed the shims to prevent the drop reported no change in softness (ie. it did not help). I think it is a design fault in lens geometry known to Fuji. Camera probably even tries to mitigate the problem a bit by image processing in JPEG engine: some people ovserved much more of a painterly effect (with sharpening) at long zoom end and distant focused objects than at wide end & close objects.

Don't want to discourage you, Paul. However, there seems to be at least as many wrong things with this camera as the good ones. Yet, I believe your words about camera being great in many aspects. What a pity it is marred with such a flaws.
