You wrote a nice post, but you failed to rebut any of my points.
You just claimed "it wasn't so."

If you don't mind, please answer these specific questions:

  • Did most prominent Democrats tell us Iraq was a threat from 1998-2003?

  • Did the French and English tell us that Iraq was a threat?

  • Did Saddam Hussein tell us he had WMD, and that he would use them?

  • Why would Bush invade Iraq looking for WMD that he knew didn't exist?

  • What could he possibly gain, facing a reelection campaign?

  • What if there really were WMDs and Bush did nothing about it?

I just don't swallow this notion that "Bush the idiot started this war" for some bizarre motive that no one can explain much less prove. My guess is that idiots in BOTH parties started beating the war drums three years before Bush was even elected. And their motive was probably sincere.

They were misled by neocons, bad intel, and Saddam himself. But they really thought they were doing the world a favor by taking down Saddam. And the truth is, the world really is better off without his brutal dictatorship.

Incidentally, Saddam bluffing about WMD has to be the absolute dumbest strategy ever employed by a dictator. Rather than scare us off, it only made his downfall more certain. If anyone was the idiot here, it was Saddam Hussein.
