Upgrade for Canon G7

Not only does the G 1X have a much larger sensor, but the noise at high ISOs (like 12800) is incredible. So if you're interested in taking night shots in low light, this camera works very well. It is a bit bigger and a bit heavier than your G7. I would agree: you should try them all out.
